2015 Gucci Stakes - Secret Agenda too good
Secret Agenda stayed towards the inside and revelled in the going to win Thursday's Group III Gucci Stakes (1100m) at Flemington.
The race was run in heavy rain, which caused the track to soften quickly, but Secret Agenda had no trouble with the going.
The field split in two from the start and Damien Oliver stuck to the inside from barrier four with the outside division, led by Tempt Me Not and Ottoman, marginally in front 200m out.
Secret Agenda ($4) was strong late and came on to defeat Tempt Me Not ($15) by 2 3/4-lengths with Lake Geneva ($9) a length away third.
Oliver said the three-year-old was always happy in the worsening ground.
"We had a nice sit off the lead and she really loved the ground,” Oliver said. "She hadn't seen a track this soft before but today, she just flew through it.”
"She's always shown a heap of potential this filly.”
Trainer Mick Price said the daughter of Not A Single Doubt had shown good form and deserved a feature race win.
"She's Group III-placed on two occasions from two tries and for her to put one away like this makes her a valuable broodmare,” Price said.
"I know the form guide doesn't show it but she's worked on the inside grass at Caulfield a fair bit and that can often get choppy so I was confident she would handle the ground.”
