Widden Stud - Celebrating 150 Years
In 2017, the internationally renowned thoroughbred nursery Widden Stud will celebrate 150 years, the world’s longest standing continuously family owned thoroughbred stud.
Established in 1867, Widden has earned the reputation as one of the world's most successful stud farms and in 2001 the Thompson family became inaugural inductees into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame alongside Phar Lap & Bart Cummings.
With my wife Katie and our children Amy and Sam, we look forward to celebrating such a significant milestone with you throughout the year either at the races; in our marquee at the sales or here on the stud.
Such a sense of achievement comes the responsibility as the current custodian of a family business, to leave it in better shape for the generations to come.
For that I would like to thank our loyal and dedicated team who have been the driving force behind our continued success today, many whose years of service span decades.
Through the support of such wonderful clients, I am proud that Widden remains a leader in producing the next generation of champion racehorses highlighted by Australia's latest two Group 1 winners (Takedown & Stratum Star) born & raised here in the 'Valley Of Champions'.
Please feel free to click here as we reflect on some of the many highlights of Widden’s 150 years.
Season’s greetings from the Thompson family and we look forward to seeing you in the new year.
Best wishes,
Antony Thompson
